Poetry of Time
In this course—mostly discussion—we will pay attention to poems about that inescapable reality, time. Is the present the time of our life or something else? Is time a friend or an enemy? Doesn’t love need time? Poets ask these and other questions about time, usually in lively and beautiful ways. In this course, we will consider the nuts and bolts of poetry—images, forms, metaphors—but mostly we will look for personal and cultural meaning, how poems can move and inspire our lives. If you weren’t much of a poetry reader before this class, don’t worry—you will soon become one. The class is open to older teenagers and any adult.
